Tanzania National Reinsurance Corporation Limited (TAN-RE) was established by the United Republic of Tanzania in line with Section 70 of the Insurance Act. No.18 of 1996.

The Company was duly incorporated as a limited liability company under the Companies Ordinance CAP. 212 on the 8th November 2001. From its domicile in the historical port city of Dar-es-salaam (‘Haven of Peace’) on the shores of the East African coast, TAN-RE effectively opened its doors for the writing of all classes of reinsurance business with effect from 27th January 2004. The Company has been registered to transact reinsurance business in respect of the following classes of insurance business: All Non-Life insurance business including Marine and Aviation business. All Life Assurance business including Pension business.

TAN-RE post a pre-tax profit of 4.5 billion shillings for year 2009
TAN-RE continued with its strong and profitable performance during year 2009. Gross written premium income  increased  by 24% to TZS 36.7billion(2008:TZS 29.5 billion), while  net retained premium  increased  by 33% to TZS 29.1 billion(2008: TZS 21.8 billion) .During this year the company recorded a superior underwriting profit of TZS 3.6 billion(2008: TZS 3.2 billion) . On the other hand profit before tax rose to TZS 4.5 billion 2009(2008: TZS 4.2 billion). Ultimately the company realized a profit after tax of 3.2 billion up from TZS 2.9 billion in the previous year. This represents an increase of 10%.
